Thailand trip 2011

Because of our involvement in the food industry, on one trip to Thailand we were given the opportunity to visit Thaifex . Thaifex is held annually in Bangkok and if you EVER have the chance…. GO!!!!
There were around 2000 display booths all of exceptional quality. Built to be torn down after seven days.

The products on display were endless, from rice to ice cream and pastries, chocolates, spring rolls, seafood of all varieties, coffee, soft drinks, if it was edible and for sale it was there for you to taste. There must have been a shortage of male staff because most of the booths were manned (woman-ed) by young Thai girls. I think the Thai resellers know how to appeal to buyers 🙂

We were  at Thaifex for three days and at the end were “Thaifexed out”. The days started around 9am and finished around 10pm after dinners hosted by various suppliers in some great Bangkok restaurants.

One memorable event was dinner at the “leading” sharks fin soup restaurant in Bangkok and featured a whole suckling pig in the middle of the table. (As well as sharks fin soup of course…. No discussion will be entered into.. we were guests)

We were very fortunate that one of our members had a brother who was very high up in the Bangkok police force so from the moment we set foot in the airport till the day we departed we had a police people mover and driver at our disposal 24 hours a day. It is amazing how fast you can get out of an airport and navigate Bangkok traffic in this style. 🙂

The hotel we stayed at “The Imperial Queens Park”  was also booked in this manner and it was certainly a lot higher class than I personally could have booked. But as the saying goes… it was hard but someone had to do it. 🙂

So all in all we had a truly wonderful week in Thailand attending meetings on food, visiting Thaifex, dining out launch and dinner and being looked after like royalty.

Jewel and I stayed on for a further week after the main contingent went home…. But that is another story.

So here are some pictures of that trip and a couple of videos to make you envious. 🙂
