The gardens

The gardens of “Danson Park” may not be amongst the world’s most breathtaking and majestic. But for us they are a labour of love over the past 31 years. Starting in 1984 with virgin bush, sandy soil that has very little nutrients and on a hillside, it was indeed a challenge. Way back in the beginning anything that grew, (even weeds) were nurtured and cherished. Trees were felled and used as banking, rocks were dragged around and used as features and walls. A bore was sunk to a depth of 70mts and although it only produces a very small amount of water, it was the beginning of the garden today and without it the garden would not exist. A pond was dug on the higher level in the stupid hope that it would hold water. When it would not it was concreted and filled from the bore. Then encouraged by this a second larger pond was created on a lower level and a sandstone water race connected the two with a pump at the lower pond re circulating the water uphill again. Things were on the improve!!
In the early days we did not even own a pair of secateurs or pruning saw. Now trimming, pruning and cutting back are a major job!

So have a look at the pictures of the  gardens.

And here is a short video of some of the plants and their flowers that now grace the gardens.
