Hoi An, an exceptionally well-preserved example of a traditional Asian trading port, is an outstanding material manifestation of the fusion of cultures over time in an international maritime commercial centre.
The town is a special example of a traditional trading port in South-East Asia which has been completely and assiduously preserved: it is the only town in Vietnam that has survived intact in this way.
Most of the buildings are in the typical architectural style of the 19th and 20th centuries. They are aligned along narrow lanes and include many religious buildings, such as pagodas, temples, meeting houses, etc., which relate to the development of a port community. The traditional lifestyle, religion, customs and cooking have been preserved and many festivals still take place annually.
Of course the main interest to us is FOOD. The town has a plethora of restaurants and we would be here for twelve months to try even half of them but we will do our best.

Comments: A pretty tourist town. No local transport so the only way to tour the township is by Hiring a Cyclo by the hour or renting a motor bike (dangerous) or pushbike, less dangerous but hard on the body in 30-40c heat. Walking is easy and most is done on the actual roads but tend to need a cold shower every few hours as it is usually hot. Food is easy to find from the multitude of restaurants all over town and especially down on the river front. Overall: We would definitely return.
